If you’re visiting Devon and looking for a different kind of day out with something for everyone in the family to enjoy, why not spend a special day out on the water and make it an unforgettable holiday.
You and your group of up to 10 will have your own private motor cruiser with professional and attentive crew for the day. You’ll get to see a completely different part of our beautiful coastline, visit some picturesque hidden-away places and relax as everyone enjoys a really special day out.
Your day will be tailored to make sure everyone in the group enjoys the entire day. Whether you want a day of fun-packed activities or a relaxing and scenic escape, with your own power boat and crew for the day there is so much to choose from to more than fill your day.
Where to Start From
It doesn’t matter where you’re staying on your holiday, you can choose to embark from wherever suits you best. Our home is Millbay Marina in Plymouth, right next to the Plymouth lifeboat. But we can also collect you from Salcombe’s town quay, Dartmouth town, Brixham or Torquay Marina.
You may not be familiar with the area so just tell us where you are staying and we’ll tell you where’s closest place you can start from and the best way to get there.
If you want to enjoy a few drinks during the day or just not worry about driving, we can arrange a minibus or taxis to collect you in the morning and take you home at the end of your day.
Once you’ve decided where to start from you can choose either a half day or full day trip. Here are a couple of examples of trips from Plymouth to give you some ideas, there’s something a little different and special in both:
Half Day Local Area Trip
We recently hosted a family birthday trip with a range of ages and they all had a fantastic time, so I would recommend doing something very similar if you would like to spend around 4 hours with us (which we class as a half-day). Before I outline the trip here’s the feedback from our client:
“It’s easy to live by the sea and forget how brilliant it is to get out on the water. The Saltwater boat was amazing and perfect for a party of 10. We had one of the best birthday celebrations you could imagine. A spin round the bay with the kids first, then out for an amazing boat trip and supper at Noss Mayo for the adults, in spectacular weather. More fun that you could shake a stick at. To be highly, highly recommended.
This trip takes you out of Millbay Marina in Plymouth and around to the River Yealm where you can relax and take in the scenery with a few drinks and refreshments on deck. The journey around to the Yealm isn’t far but it does give you the chance to experience travelling across the water with a little power and speed for around 15 minutes or so.
The Yealm really is a stunning little cruise as it is flanked by the picturesque villages of Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo. Once up river, there’s a lovely waterside pub where you have the options to go ashore for drinks or food if you like. Or if you prefer to make the most of the boat then you can’t beat bringing along a picnic. We have all the cutlery and crockery you will need to make a great picnic spread on board and we can find you a lovely anchorage where you can relax and eat.
After eating you could head back around to Plymouth, seeing the historic city sights from the water. A cruise up the river Tamar would be a great way to finish your tour of the area. The Royal Naval Dockyards usually have one or two warships moored up and sometimes a submarine which is something you don’t often get the chance to see from the water.
The vessel and skipper are at your disposal so you can change what you want to do on the day, depending on how the family feels. The time always flies and there’s something to see wherever you are so don’t worry about your younger girls getting bored. Even if the weather isn’t perfect, we have lots of warm comfortable seating inside the saloon so your trip won’t be affected at all.
Alternatively, if you preferred a quieter scenic river trip then a journey up the River Tamar to Calstock is something special. A very calm and relaxing river trip in beautiful countryside surroundings.
Full Day Coastal Trip
Alternatively, a full day would allow you time to head west out of Plymouth and down the coast for the day. You could stop off along the way to take in the surroundings with some tea, coffee and refreshments at anchor in a secluded bay. Heading along the coastline and in to the lovely town of Fowey, you can go ashore to explore the town a little and grab some food.
Or if you wanted to head in the other direction from Plymouth then you could visit the beautiful coastal town of Salcombe instead; Salcombe Dairy ice-cream is a must on a hot day!
Again, if you brought along your own food and drinks, there are lots of great spots that you would never know about scattered along the coast to anchor for a picnic and take in the stunning surroundings.
If you have the time and and want to do something different with family or friends, then this is a really special trip to do from the comfort of your own private motor cruiser, it will certainly make for a memorable day out.
I’ve mentioned a few different things in there so please bear in mind that we can tailor the trip exactly as you want it. If you want to chop, change or add to these suggestions that’s perfectly fine.
Your Captain for the Day
You’re in very safe hands with our skipper Peter Wiliamson who is a highly qualified RYA Commercial Yachtmaster with over 40 years at the helm, most of those along the South Devon and Cornish coastline so he really does know all the best secret spots.
Your Boat for the Day
Your boat will be our 40ft motor cruiser Intrigue who is coded my the Marine & Coastguard Agency (MCA) to carry up to 12, so that’s 2 crew plus your group of up to 10 guests.
If the weather is hot and sunny you can bask in the sun on top of the loungers on our flybridge, put your feet up in the comfort of our cockpit or lay out a towel and sunbathe on the forward decks.
Hot and sunny in England? As you can see from some of the photos we have some gorgeous days out on the water, in fact there’s nowhere better to be when its sunny.
But don’t worry if the weather’s not so hot and sunny. We have a warm and comfortable saloon where your whole group can relax, eat and drink and enjoy the cruise just as much. Some of the most enjoyable trips our clients have enjoyed have been when the weather hasn’t been so kind, as you can read here on our testimonials page.
A half day trip allows you to escape and do something a little different. You can choose the morning, afternoon or evening and you will be able to venture a little further than the local surroundings. A half day trip typically lasts around 4 hours and costs between £495 and £595 depending on your group size and how much you would like to see and do.
For the full experience of your own private motor cruiser and crew for the day, you’ll be able to head down the coast for the day stopping off along the way and visiting one of coast’s wonderful towns. This really is a special day out that everybody in your group will enjoy, no matter how young or old there will be something for everyone. A full day trip typically lasts around 8 hours and the price will be between £795 and £995 depending on your group size and how much you would like to see and do.
